Learn what’s in a NDIS Plan

There are three types of support budgets that may be funded in your NDIS plan. (Not all support budgets and categories may be in your plan, they depend on your assessed needs).

Core Supports Budget - Help with everyday needs

  • Capacity Building Supports Budget - Training you to do things yourself

  • Capital Supports Budget - Major equipment or housing specifically due to your disability

Core Supports Categories

Help with everyday needs

  • Assistance with Daily Life

    A support worker to help with everyday needs, like personal care, household tasks and yard maintenance.

  • Consumables

    Funding to purchase everyday items you may need. Like continence products or low cost items to improve your independence.

  • Assistance with Social & Community Participation

    A support worker to take you out to help you participate in social and community activities.

  • Transport

    Funding to help with travel to work, etc. in accordance with your plan goals. How you can spend this will be different for each person.

Capacity Building Supports Categories

Building your ability to do things yourself

  • Support Coordination

    Funding for Support Coordination or Psychosocial Recovery Coaching (which is basically support coordination with a mental health focus). A Support Coordinator is your go-to person for all things plan related. Helps with navigating the NDIS, getting ongoing funding and coordinating your NDIS and mainstream supports.   • Improved Living Arrangements

    Funding to help you find and maintain an appropriate place to live.

  • Increased Social & Community Participation

    Funding to build your skills to participate in social and recreational activities.

  • Finding & Keeping a Job

    Funding for support, training and assessments that help you find and keep a job.

  • Improved Relationships

    Not what it sounds like, it’s for managing challenging behaviours. Funding for support to help develop positive behaviours and improve relationships.

  • Improved Health & Wellbeing

    Funding for skill building supports including exercise or diet advice to manage impact of disability.

  • Improved Learning

    Funding for skill building supports to help a person move from school to further education.

  • Improved Life Choices

    Not what it sounds like. This is funding for a plan manager, who pays the invoices of other service providers.

  • Improved Daily Living

    Funding for various therapists, including social workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, etc. This is to help manage the functional impacts of disability.

Capital Supports Categories

Major equipment or housing specifically due to your disability

  • Assistive Technology

    Funding for equipment for mobility, personal care, communication and recreational inclusion.

  • Home Modifications

    Funding for home modifications like ramps or installation of hand rails in bathroom to make your home accessible for you.
